The Divinity of Christ (7)

We discussed in the previous articles that Jesus has all the attributes of God and His power, and so He is full Divine, and He is God manifested in the flesh.

In this article, we discuss the second point:

Second: important clear verses confirming the Divinity of Christ:

In the Holy Scriptures, God reveals Himself to mankind. And concerning the Divinity of Christ there are many clear verses confirming this fact. I have selected some of them:

+ [Rom. 9:5]: "of whom are the fathers (talking about Jews) and from whom, according to the flesh, Christ came, who is over all, the eternally blessed God." Here is a confirmation that Christ is God who is above all.

+ [John 20:28] "And Thomas answered and said to Him, “My Lord and my God!”" Thomas recognized that Christ is the Lord and God. It is the recognition of true faith that is accepted and confirmed by Christ.

+ [John 1:1] "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God…"  This is a confirmation of the eternity of the Word and His existence with God the Father since the beginning, and that there was no time when the Father existed without the Son. This is also logical as how can we imagine the existence of God the Father without His Wisdom or His Logos for any period of time! Even if we, for argument sake, assume the existence of the Father without the Son for a period of time as Arius proposed, that is without His Wisdom or Logos, how could the Father create the Son without the Wisdom? Therefore, the Eternity of the Son in God is rational.

+ [Matt. 1:23] "Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel,” which is translated, “God with us.”" Here is a confirmation that the born Son is God manifest in the flesh.

+ [Isaiah 9:6] "For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace".

This is a wonderful clear prophecy about the nativity of Christ written 700 years before its happening. The prophecy confirms the divinity of the Son.

+ [Isaiah 45:5-6, 21-22]I am the Lord, and there is no other; There is no God besides Me. I will gird you, though you have not known Me, That they may know from the rising of the sun to its setting that there is none besides Me. I am the Lord, and there is no other;…Tell and bring forth your case; Yes, let them take counsel together. Who has declared this from ancient time? Who has told it from that time? Have not I, the Lord? And there is no other God besides Me, A just God and a Savior; There is none besides Me. “Look to Me, and be saved, All you ends of the earth! For I am God, and there is no other.”  Here God asserts that He is the Only Savior. This is exactly what has been said about the Lord Jesus Christ, that He is the Savior [(i.e. Matt. 1:21, Luke 2:11) and nor is there salvation in any other (Acts 4:12).

by the grace of Christ, we will continue this series with another group of verses in the next article.
