A Question about Abortion

I received this question: What is the opinion of the church if a non-married girl got impregnated by a non-Christian man? Is not abortion the solution to that problem?

+ According to the description of the Bible, the Church is “the pillar and foundation of the truth" (1 Timothy 3:15), that means the church is the base upon which the truth stands and from which shines to enlighten the world. The most important character required from the priests, the servants of the church is to correctly handle the word of truth. (2 Timothy 2:15). And that’s what the church prays for in every liturgy: "And those who rightly divide the word of truth with him (with His Holiness the Patriarch), grant them unto your holy church to shepherd your flock in peace," so where should we look for the truth if it does not exist in the church and with the servants of God?

+ We all know that abortion is murder. How can we ask the church to legalize murder because that would be the solution to the problem? How can we ask the church to deviate from the right path and thus deviate from their faith in Christ who is "the way, the truth, and the life" (John 14: 6). This is similar to someone who tries covering a certain mistake by lying; one tries to fix a mistake with a bigger one in vain, as through lying human becomes a son of the devil (John 8:44).

The easy solution is not always the right solution.

+ In the Church, we are concerned about helping people in their troubles and problems, but it should be according to and in the context of the commandment of the Bible. Breaking the commandment of God, claiming it is better for us will only bring serious consequences for everyone. We do not reject the easy solution unless it’s wrong and breaks the commandment.

 Let’s discuss this case together:

+ In the case of a pregnancy as a result of a sin, as long as God has allowed the formation of the fetus, no one has the right to kill them, because the principle of the sanctity of life applies to the fetus as it applies to the mother.

+ Is it fair to punish the innocent fetus, when the adults are actually the mistaken ones?

+ The church stands with expecting mothers as they are experiencing such difficult times. Regardless of the magnitude of their sin, the church sponsors them spiritually, psychologically, and socially in a safe place and provides them with all the love throughout the pregnancy and childbirth period..

+ It must be clear to us that there is no other solution but to take responsibility for our own mistakes. The advocates of abortion here are adding a new crime to the crime of adultery, which is the crime of murder. We simply can’t cover up this sin by committing murder!

+ Some might believe that it is better to abort the fetus before it causes society so much trouble! In response to this claim, I would ask these people to consider if they would be okay to get rid of any human who is causing us problems or humiliating us because of his bad behavior, or causing us a moral or material damage. Of course, this idea is not acceptable; not only it is against the Christian values but also it is against human values. No matter how difficult of a life a child may have or no matter how troubling a child may become to society, our God is capable at any moment to transform their life. Therefore, the act of abortion is abominable because the expecting mother 1) denies the opportunity of life provided by the Giver of Life, the Holy Spirit, 2) she denies our Heavenly Father the opportunity to be a Father to care and provide for His children, 3) and she denies the forgiveness and salvation provided by the Cross of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
