The Big Heart

- It’s a heart that has room for many people and many things.

- A heart that tolerates the faults and troubles of many people

- A heart that forbears whatever comes its way with utmost calm and peace, like a vast ocean that able to swallow garbage where it dissolves and disappears in its depth.

- A heart where everyone finds it to be a place of rest, worm welcome and care.

- A heart that accepts all people regardless of their color, race, religion, or habits, “Receive one another, just as Christ also received us, to the glory of God.” (Romans 15:7), “Receive one who is weak in the faith… For God has received him.” (Rom 14-1:3).

In order for the heart to reach this level, it must be connected to the heart of the heavenly Father which is exceedingly big. The deeper, more fervent and frequent this connection, the bigger the heart of man will be.

  • The big heart is one that grows in the love of God through prayer so it becomes bigger, and when it strives in living by the commandment, it becomes bigger, “I will run the course of Your commandments, for You shall enlarge my heart.” (Psalm 119:32). When we persevere in worship our hearts become bigger, and when we are patient in carrying the cross with thanksgiving, our hearts become bigger.

- A big heart dignifies and elevates the man who hast it, and makes him more valuable, so he become a refuge to the weary, a fountain of peace to the troubled, a support for the broken,  and consolation for the mourners and those who suffer.

And here is Saint Paul the Apostle, the one who has a big heart, speaks to us through the Holy Spirit saying:  “Our heart is wide open… I speak to you as to children, you also be open.” (2 Corinthian 6:11, 13).
